As fans already know, RM will hold a special exhibition with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) in October 2026. While RM’s extensive knowledge and vast collection of contemporary art have already been widely recognized, this collaboration — first proposed by SFMOMA — marks an official acknowledgment of his influence extending far beyond music and beyond the boundaries of a K-pop idol.

When introducing the major event on his Instagram account, the BTS leader sincerely expressed: “Since I began visiting museums in 2018, I’ve been learning and collecting step by step, and it feels both humbling and meaningful to now prepare this exhibition.”

He added gratefully: “If you have the time, I would be honored if you could visit with an open heart. I will do my best to create an experience that feels enjoyable, refreshing, and worth your time. Thank you,” which touched the hearts of fans.

At the same time, the BTS members enthusiastically welcomed their leader’s new role as the curator of his own exhibition. j-hope, V, and Jungkook quickly left comments shortly after RM shared the post.

j-hope added fire and clapping emojis to show his appreciation, while Jungkook left a simple yet adorable comment, “Oh wow,” reflecting his admiration for his “idol.” V followed with a smiling face with heart-eyes emoji, showing just how excited he was about the exhibition.

Fans believe that even the other BTS members who did not publicly comment online may still send RM messages or congratulate him directly on this meaningful personal project. Many also hope to see the members attend the exhibition in person alongside RM when the event opens.

Meanwhile, according to the museum’s latest press release, RM will be in San Francisco on September 29 to introduce the exhibition “RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me.” The exhibition will run from October 2026 to February 2027 and will feature around 200 works, including pieces from RM’s personal collection as well as works from the museum’s collection. RM’s remarks and appearance at the event will not be open to the public, with only accredited media representatives allowed to attend.

RM’s collection will showcase works by renowned кσяєαn contemporary artists such as Yun Hyong-keun, Park Seo-bo, Kwon Ok-yeon, Kim Yoon-shin, Do Sang-bong, and Chang Ucchin. In addition, works by world-famous artists like Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Paul Klee will also be on display. Some pieces will even be presented to the public for the very first time.

Notably, to add a special highlight to his collection, RM is believed to have spent 1 billion won to acquire a famous artwork at an auction not long ago. The artwork in question is “The Wind Testifies,” also known as Le vent en témoigne, an oil-on-canvas painting created by кσяєαn artist Seund Ja Rhee in 1965.

According to The JoongAng, at a Christie’s Hong Kong auction in 2021, the painting was sold for HK$5,625,000, equivalent to more than 1 billion won. However, this was not necessarily the final price when the painting eventually came into RM’s possession. A year after the auction, the artwork was spotted as part of the BTS superstar’s art collection on his Instagram account. Since the value of artworks often increases over time, experts speculate that RM may have paid more than 1 billion won to acquire the painting.

Ahead of the big event, Janet Bishop, Chief Curator at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, remarked: “Visitors will have an unprecedented opportunity to explore RM's beautiful and contemplative collection of paintings and sculpture in dialogue with works from SFMOMA's holdings, inviting us to make new discoveries and reflect on our own relationships with art.”
