RM — the leader of BTS — appeared in public in a completely new role: not as a rapper on stage, but as an art curator at a special exhibition titled ‘Between You and Me’ held at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). Speaking to reporters there on the 29th (local time), RM shared, "This exhibition is essentially quite a long self-introduction of who I am."
RM opened up, “As a young Korean, I began collecting artworks with the hope of contributing a newer, younger, and perhaps more positive perspective and way of seeing things. That journey eventually led to the creation of today’s exhibition.”
The exhibition welcomes the public with a total of 179 artworks, including 142 pieces from RM’s personal collection alongside treasured works from the museum. At the media preview, RM’s personal touch and artistic taste could be seen throughout the exhibition space. Some of the artworks he deeply cherishes, such as Park Soo-keun’s ‘A Girl Carrying Her Younger Sibling’ and the calligraphy piece ‘Ha Sa Eum Joeryeon’ by Chusa Kim Jeong-hui, were prominently displayed for visitors.
Notably, among those witnessing his transition from an art exhibition enthusiast to a full-fledged curator were his own family members. Their presence at SFMOMA quickly drew attention from fans.
On the same day, RM’s younger sister shared several photos taken at the exhibition’s opening press conference on Instagram. In one of the photos, she captured RM standing at the podium speaking to reporters and sent him a sweet message: “Congratulations!” She also shared several more photos of the artworks on display at SFMOMA, while tagging RM and the museum’s official account.
At the same time, ARMYs who were at the exhibition in person shared that they had seen RM attending the event with his parents and younger sister. The reports left fans particularly touched as they realized that RM’s family had been in San Francisco to witness this memorable milestone in the BTS superstar’s artistic journey.
Their presence also reminded many fans of what RM has shared about his family and how they have always been his first and biggest supporters.
RM once said, “My dad had so much passion and a strong drive for life inside him, which is why he was so supportive of the path I chose.” Meanwhile, he described his mother: “In contrast, my mother always tried to provide me with stability. She would often advise me not to take too many risks and to keep myself within my comfort zone.”
He once compared himself to “a pendulum swinging back and forth between my father and mother,” while also believing that both of them had taught him the meaning of balance. He also made sure to express his deep appreciation for them, saying, “They are truly wonderful parents to me.”
Seeing RM’s family quietly supporting him throughout his career and at the special milestones in his life has made fans feel even more deeply the meaning behind the success he has achieved. Fans also firmly believe that, sitting among the au∂ιєnce, RM’s parents and younger sister must be prouder of him than ever.
