Many years ago, Jin’s nickname “BTS’s Mom” was widely used within the fan community. The reason was that Jin, being the oldest member of the group, often took responsibility for managing and taking care of the younger members in their daily lives. He was also the one who handled most of the cooking in BTS’s shared dorm kitchen.
Jin didn’t just look after their meals and their sleep — he also played the role of a pillar that kept the members connected. He became the “glue” bonding everyone together, creating a harmonious atmosphere among individuals with very different personalities.
Of course, managing six teenage boys — a stage when everyone carries a heightened sense of ego and sensitivity — was not easy at all. Even though Jin was the oldest, he was in reality only around 20–21 years old during those years. And yet, he still fulfilled his role naturally and exceptionally well, laying the foundation for BTS’s harmony that has lasted more than a decade, and counting.

In the fandom, one well-known anecdote still circulates today as an example of Jin’s tactfulness and the affection he had for the members. The story took place when BTS lived together in a cramped dorm under Big Hit Entertainment. More than ten years have pαѕѕed, yet the parts that were meant to be kept secret have remained completely confidential because Jin himself did not want to hurt any of the members.
Specifically, when living together in the dorm, the young boys couldn’t avoid conflicts related to lifestyle differences. One issue that needed clarification was hygiene and cleaning. To solve that problem, they decided to set a cleaning rule while living together, and anyone who violated it would need to pay a fine. Each fine was 1,000 KRW. Jin was the one responsible for observing and keeping track of those who violated the rule.
Although the amount wasn’t large, for young people at that age with high pride, being fined could make them upset or embarrαѕѕed. Surprisingly, ever since the rule was implemented, almost no one violated it.
However, Jin later confessed that it wasn’t that no one violated the rule — the truth was that he had been hiding their identities. Even after 10 years, when the story resurfaced, Jin still chose never to reveal who the fined members were. The members only knew that Jin’s phone still had the list of violators from that time. Three names were listed, with a total of 18,000 KRW in accumulated fines.

Through this story, it’s clear that Jin used his kindness, patience, and empathy to cultivate good character in the members and strengthen their friendship. He allowed the members to gradually adjust and improve while living together instead of pointing out their flaws immediately, which could have easily caused emotional hurt.
Not only that, it also demonstrates the deep love Jin has for the other six members — soмєтнing that remains unchanged to this day. There was even an interview where the eldest hyung of BTS said: “If a member said they were sick, I think I’d even be willing to give them a kidney.”
In the interview with נαραиese magazine Spur published on the 21st, ahead of BTS’s return as a full group in the spring of 2026, Jin also couldn’t hide his happiness when talking about his younger members: “When the members were working on new songs in the U.S., I joined them a bit later because of my solo tour. Listening to the tracks that were completed while I wasn’t there, I was moved by their level of perfection and artistry. Meeting the members again and hearing their music made me realize once more how incredible they are.”

Jin’s words immediately sparked buzz on social media. One fan wrote, “These boys truly love each other, are confident in themselves, and remain humble.” Another commented, “They’re not coworkers—they’re family. The love and respect they have for each other is incredible. BTS paved the way.”
Other highlighted fans’ warm reactions — especially toward the eldest hyung constantly praising his younger brothers — were also collected: “That hyung never stops bragging about his dongsaengs. I can’t wait for BTS’s comeback", “I realized again how amazing they are,” another fan wrote. “Oh Jin… I’m so ready for their comeback", “All this talk about the new album is making me desperate. I need it now", “BTS’s production and creativity are so exceptional that even BTS themselves get impressed. Hearing that he was deeply moved by the quality and artistry… Album of the Year is coming—for everyone, including their mothers",...
