Recently, the global K-pop fandom and anime community have been captivated by a dramatic chain of events involving Jungkook. What began as a small social media update quickly escalated into a direct confrontation with an anti-fan, while receiving υиєχρє¢тє∂ and enthusiastic support from streaming giant Netflix.
On the 20th, Jungkook surprised fans by changing his Instagram profile picture to David and Lucy, the beloved protagonists of the нιт anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The seemingly simple update sent ѕнσ¢кwaves across social media worldwide. While countless fan accounts discussed the change and even updated their own profile pictures to match their idol, official Netflix accounts from several countries also wasted no time reacting to the move.
Netflix Philippines reposted a fan's tweet with the caption, "Even the highlights?? Weeb Jungkook is my favorite ball knower," expressing its amusement and excitement. Netflix fяαи¢є joined in as well, sharing images of the anime characters alongside the caption, "Jungkook a dit allez voir CYBERPUNK EDGERUNNERS" ("Jungkook said go watch CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNERS").

Netflix вяαzιℓ took things even further by updating its profile bio to read, "Jungkook αѕѕistiu Cyberpunk: Mercenários" ("Jungkook watched Cyberpunk: Edgerunners"). Prior to that, the account had already changed its profile picture to an image of David and Lucy sitting together and posted the same image with the caption, "Jungkook said: Watch Cyberpunk: Edgerunners."

With just a single Instagram profile picture change, Jungkook sparked an overwhelming range of reactions from fans. Across online communities and social media platforms, comments poured in, including: "He only changed his profile picture, and Netflix responded at lightning speed," "This is genuine love—they even changed their cover photo!", "This level of impact is soмєтнing only Jungkook can have," "What is happening with Jungkook's influence?", "No one can match Jungkook's influence," "Jungkook is basically a promotional angel," and "Jungkoookie is so hot, now I want to watch it too."
What makes the situation even more noteworthy is that Netflix's enthusiastic support came amid criticism from an anti-fan account on X, which mocked Jungkook as a "newbie" who supposedly lacked real knowledge about anime. The account argued that because Jungkook had spent most of his childhood training and working in the entertainment industry, he never had the chance to grow up with anime like ordinary people.
Jungkook then responded with a powerful and highly publicized call-out. He screenshotted the malicious post and shared it directly to his Instagram Story, which has 22.4 million followers, adding a short but impactful message: "Who do you think you are?"

At this point, even the world's largest streaming platform had effectively acknowledged Jungkook as a dedicated anime fan and was openly celebrating alongside the fandom. Many fans argued that no one was in a position to question the authenticity of his pαѕѕion.
On the other hand, this is far from the first time Netflix has caused a social media frenzy because of Jungkook. Previously, when the singer livestreamed with fans and became emotional while watching touching scenes from KPop Demon Hunters, Netflix's official X account immediately changed its banner image to a screenshot of Jungkook crying. The account also updated its bio to read: "Jungkook watched KPop Demon Hunters."

Meanwhile, regarding the recent controversy, fans have also presented extensive evidence showing that Jungkook has long been a genuine otaku rather than someone merely pretending to enjoy anime. Over the years, fans have repeatedly spotted him watching anime backstage, on airplanes, and during rare moments of downtime. He has also demonstrated an impressive familiarity with anime memes and iconic scenes, particularly from Jujutsu Kaisen.
As for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners specifically, Jungkook's enthusiasm for the series predates his profile picture change by a long margin. He once casually sang the show's iconic theme song, "I Really Want to Stay at Your House," during a livestream. During a Weverse Live broadcast with Jimin, he also couldn't hide his excitement when he exclaimed that he wished Cyberpunk 2 would come out already.
Jungkook has also shared content related to the collaboration between Wuthering Waves and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. In an interview with Netflix, he revealed that he listens to a lot of music from the anime and occasionally revisits some of its emotional scenes, further demonstrating his enduring affection for the series.
In the end, Jungkook emerged from this controversy completely unscathed—and arguably stronger than ever. Many fans voiced their support, emphasizing that artists are under no obligation to silently endure insults or harαѕѕment online. The incident also reignited a phrase that has been widely shared across social media: "Jungkook is no longer a victim of anti-fans."
