From every perspective—both physically and mentally—ARMYs would undoubtedly rank Jungkook among the bravest members of BTS. While other members—even the oldest ones—are often afraid of things like ghosts, heights, or extreme sports, the “Golden Maknae” seems to fear almost nothing at all.
Jungkook can jump off swings without hesitation and even enthusiastically takes on bungee jumping challenges from towering cliffs. Just watching is enough to make one’s heart race—many idols would probably back out, but he remains completely calm and even excited when facing such activities.
Fans also know that Jungkook has a strong personality and always confronts challenges head-on. He participates in various sports such as boxing and working out, and performing difficult dance routines requires both mental and physical strength.

Therefore, it is hard to imagine anything that could startle or scare him. However, in reality, Jungkook has shown that he is completely human and has a fear that has haunted him from his teenage years into adulthood. This fear is actually stranger than fans could ever imagine: he is afraid of microwaves!
Specifically, during a conversation with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the host was visibly surprised when Jungkook mentioned that microwaves were his greatest fear.
Jimmy asked, "I was looking through some interviews with you, and this question made me laugh. It said, ‘What is the scariest thing in the world for you?’ And your answer was: ‘A microwave. I always worry that it will explode.’ What are you talking about?"
Jungkook shyly admitted, "Well, when I was young, I used to be afraid." The BTS singer then went on to mimic the sound of an explosion to explain why he is afraid of microwaves. His fear began after an incident during his trainee days when the members were living together in a shared dorm.
At the time, BTS often went to convenience stores to buy food because they didn’t have much money. One day, Jungkook bought a cheese stick, and the cashier advised him that it would melt perfectly and taste best if heated in the microwave for about 10 seconds. However, Jungkook decided to leave it in with his food for about 30 seconds, despite the other members’ protests.
When he finally took it out, he regretted it and even exclaimed, “No, no, oh my god.” It turned out that the cheese had melted out of the container due to the excessive heat. The scene looked quite scary—if he had delayed for even one more second, the microwave might have “exploded” immediately. Since then, Jungkook has never dared to microwave a cheese stick for more than 10 seconds and has always been more cautious around the rectangular appliance.
After hearing Jungkook’s story, surprisingly, quite a few fans admitted that using a microwave sometimes gives them a similar feeling. Some laughed at the fact that Jungkook, who dares to go bungee jumping or ghost hunting, becomes “small” in front of a microwave. Still, this side of him makes the K-pop superstar feel more relatable, and most fans find his fear incredibly adorable:
- Jungkook's fear of microwaves is quite unique and endearing! It's interesting how childhood fears can stick with us
- The little pause before still afraid. This is the cutest I don’t know everrrrrr
- Haha. Im more afraid of a hairdryer to blow up and me loosing all my hair, or remote control to explode when i throw it onto the sofa. Damn, we all got our fears.
- My gosh. Even his reason was same with mine. Wow. Now I know I have someone I can share that fear with and why.
- Me too. I dont have microwave at home. Its radiation if too much is going to cause lethargy and some symptoms for some weak people. That is my belief.
- I find myself deeply concerned about the tiny radiation particles going inside me everytime I use the microwave
- This is so relatable. This is why I don’t like using the microwave
- omggg he's so meeeeeee bestieeee entonces quien va a calentdar la comida!??!?!?!
- Keep every single microwave away from him
- The way we knew he was gonna say that based on that pregnant pauseJungkook photo book
- He's so real for this though I'm also kind of afraid of the pressure cooker thinking it'll explodr
