NASA Officially Announces A BTS Song Selected For “Moon Tunes“ Playlist To Be Played In Space

Recently, the title track “SWIM” from BTS’s fifth studio album climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 dated April 11. The song has held its position in the top two for two consecutive weeks after previously reaching No. 1 on April 4. Meanwhile, the album ARIRANG has also achieved an impressive feat by topping the Billboard 200 for two weeks in a row. A representative from Big Hit Music confirmed that this marks the first time a кσяєαn artist has accomplished such a milestone.

According to Billboard, with “SWIM,” BTS has now earned a total of seven No. 1 нιтs on the Hot 100, including “Dynamite,” “Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat),” “Life Goes On,” “Butter,” “Permission To Dance,” and “My Universe.” Not stopping there, 13 additional tracks from the ARIRANG album also debuted on the chart simultaneously in their first week of release.

These latest achievements once again affirm BTS as one of the most famous artists on the planet. And soon, they may even become one of the “most famous artists in the universe,” as their music is set to echo beyond Earth—potentially reaching even extraterrestrial listeners!

On the 10th, NASA officially unveiled the “Moon Tunes” playlist—a special selection of songs that will be played during the lunar voyage of the Artemis II mission, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 Moon Landing. Among the 10 selected tracks, alongside numerous global music legends, BTS is honored to be included with “Mikrokosmos,” the only K-pop song on the list.

In fact, the journey for “Mikrokosmos” to be included in Moon Tunes began back in 2019, when NASA opened submissions to find suitable songs for the project. Immediately, three BTS tracks—“Mikrokosmos,” “134340,” and “Moonchild” (by RM)—received an overwhelming number of nominations from fans around the world. Ultimately, “Mikrokosmos” was officially selected, standing alongside iconic нιтs by legendary artists such as Elton John, Beastie Boys, and Coldplay.

Released as part of the album Map of the Soul: Persona (2019), “Mikrokosmos” carries a profound message about the connection between humans and the universe. The title originates from Hungarian, meaning “small world,” and subtly reflects the philosophy of the reciprocal relationship between humans and the cosmos—portraying each individual as a miniature universe with their own inner power. In a broader sense, the song explores how individuals coexist in harmony with all things in life. This meaning makes it a perfect choice for a journey of cosmic scale.

Although not one of BTS’s biggest commercial нιтs, “Mikrokosmos” stands out for its depth, positive message, and strong connection to the universe. Its selection is not only a source of pride for fans but also a testament to the ever-expanding global reach of BTS’s music—transcending geographical boundaries and now extending into outer space. No matter where in the universe, BTS continues to shine in their own unique way.

Following the official announcement, fans quickly spread the news across social media, sharing their excitement with countless enthusiastic reactions:
