Relationships in life are already complex. Yet in the world of showbiz, that complexity multiplies with layers of competition, suspicion, and pretense. This is also why BTS is highly regarded as a moral role model in the entertainment industry—because maintaining purity, politeness, and kindness for over a decade in such a cutthroat environment is exceptionally rare.
Having good character, however—whether as BTS as a whole or Jungkook as an individual—doesn’t mean those around them share the same values. In fact, BTS members themselves have faced multiple incidents where their kindness and trust in colleagues were betrayed.
A prime example is HYBE’s Performance Director and long-time dance instructor of BTS, Lee Byung Eun, who was arrested for exploiting the group’s reputation for personal gain over the course of 10 years. Another case is Jimin, who generously lent 100 million won to comedian Lee Jin Ho in 2022, unaware that the money would be used for online gambling and that the borrower had no intention—or ability—to pay it back.
Even more strikingly, Jungkook once revealed that he, too, had been a victim of betrayal. The youngest member of BTS admitted that his very first experience of betrayal left him struggling with psychological distress.
In an interview, he began by saying that certain aspects of his personality remain unchanged: "I was warmhearted and trusting as a child, and I still am", he said. He expressed that he is always ready to give love to those who value it and to treat anyone kindly, without suspicion.
But he went on to reveal that because of this innocence and kindness, he was taken advantage of—even by someone who had once been very close to him. Though he did not disclose specific details of the betrayal, he described the initial difficulty of facing a situation where “they broke my heart.”
The experience of being deceived by someone he once considered a friend had a profound impact on him mentally. His personality changed in many ways, but it also taught him a valuable lesson in maturity: to protect himself and to be more cautious in relationships.
Jungkook shared: “I give my all to those I love". He added, “My groupmates all acknowledge this,” Jungkook continued. “Sometimes, I worry about what’s going to happen, but I’m lucky enough to have my groupmates beside me, which is reäṩṩuring. But if I depended on them too much, it would be like hiding behind them, so I need to be able to stand on my own.”
Hearing Jungkook’s words, fans were heartbroken by what he had endured in the past. On the other hand, they found it understandable—because not everyone is genuine enough to treat him like the BTS members do, especially when idols stand at the height of global K-pop superstardom.
Fortunately, through such experiences, Jungkook has broadened his perspective, learned to recognize who truly matters—those who treat him well—and adjusted his mindset and behavior accordingly. The most remarkable part is that, despite going through an emotional ѕнσ¢к, he has preserved his sincerity and continues to place his heart in the right place.
