Born in October 2022 and associated with the solo single “The Astronaut” before Jin’s enlistment, Wootteo has become a beloved virtual companion for many fans, standing side by side with RJ — Jin’s first “child.” Sharing the same theme as the single, Wootteo takes the form of a cute, animated astronaut.

He was even given his own personal Instagram account by Jin to share many POV-style photos. Wootteo has been seen following his “daddy” to various projects, events, and concerts — sometimes appearing right beside Jin, and other times… floating around.

While Wootteo’s astronaut design makes sense given that he was created in the context of The Astronaut, fans have long been curious about the meaning behind his special name. Jin officially explained the name of his second “son” and even revealed that before Wootteo’s debut, the little guy had a few other name options.

Specifically, Jin said: "Wootteo's original first name was Woodori. I thought Woojoobihaengsa (astronaut) plus Dori (like a cute way of calling a boy) but they asked if I had another name and I thought Wootteo for Woojoo Tteodori (space wanderer) so we went with Wootteo".

Meanwhile, Jin also added more information about the origin of the character, reinforcing why he took the form of an astronaut rather than something else. There were several reasons Jin created Wootteo — one of them being his wish for ARMYs to find joy and comfort through someone who could accompany them while he was away serving in the military.

“The first thing iss that fans might find it a bit burdensome to put us around so this guy can fill that space instead of. Secondly, it is a bit burdensome to have a humans face so it will act as a character can fill that space. Thirdly, I hope you guys would have a bit more fun with the appearance of a cute guy... It would have been one of these three. I've discussed this with the company as I made this and they're smart...", he said sincerely. 

Born out of Jin’s sincere wish to give ARMYs a companion rather than a replacement during his absence, Wootteo went on to fulfill that purpose beautifully. Throughout Jin’s enlistment, the little boy offered warmth and comfort, making fans feel that a part of him was always there.
