Four years ago, when BTS announced that they would be taking a temporary break from group activities, many media outlets exaggerated the situation, suggesting that it could be a sign of a permanent disbandment. As a result, HYBE’s stock price once plunged by as much as 28%. The term “temporary break” also led the public to believe that BTS might follow the path of groups like One Direction or Fifth Harmony — groups that announced a hiatus, promised to reunite, but ultimately never returned.

However, as everyone has seen, BTS returned with their full lineup with the album “ARIRANG”, which topped the Billboard 200 for three consecutive weeks, along with a world tour of the same name that has the largest number of shows in K-pop history and still shows signs of further expansion. In several recent interviews, the members have even expressed that BTS’ Chapter 2 has only just begun. They have imagined continuing to perform even when they are in their 60s and 70s, and by then, they would transition into a band.

In other words, “disband” does not seem to exist in the group’s dictionary, at least for the next few decades. Yet while BTS is busy continuing to write their story, there are still hostile groups of people who seemingly cannot accept this reality and are simply waiting for an early ending to come to the group.

Since BTS’ return, especially following several recent controversies involving Chris Brown, AI Gemini, and allegations that the group has an “extreme obsession with weight” and puts pressure on other idols, social media has been flooded with calls for BTS to disband. Meanwhile, some solo fans have continued to stir up unnecessary arguments, demanding that certain members leave the group or throwing negative accusations at one member after another in an attempt to drive a wedge between the seven.

There was even a #btsdisband campaign launched by a group of extremists, including solo fans and haters, as well as fans of other K-pop groups. These people have continuously used offensive language to attack the members and target BTS in an attempt to tarnish the group’s reputation and accelerate the downfall of both BTS and the ARMY fandom. Not only that, they have also used insulting and hateful language to attack and ¢υяѕє the group while taking pleasure in the idea that their own idols would rise to the top of K-pop if BTS disbanded.

However, no matter how much netizens or haters stir up chaos, it does not seem to affect BTS. In fact, they have always known how to make those who want the group to disband feel even more “helpless” without having to say a word. From the members’ friendship tattoos of the number 7 to the BTS- and ARMY-related symbolic tattoos on Jungkook’s hand, and most recently, j-hope’s tattoo of BTS forming the word ARMY on the back of his thigh, inspired by the moment “Got ARMY right behind us when we say so” from “Butter”.

Notably, after the second concert in Los Angeles, BTS posed together backstage, recreating the image of the word ARMY from that very “Got ARMY right behind us when we say so” moment. Without making a statement or directly firing back at anyone, the seven members simply stood side by side and once again showed that they are still here — together.

For ARMY, those moments were perhaps the most satisfying response of all. Those who want BTS to disband must be particularly frustrated to see that the harder they try to push BTS toward an ending, the more the group continues to demonstrate their lasting existence with no end in sight.
