BigHit Music Has Officially Filed Legal Action Against Individuals Who Harassed & Broke Into BTS Members’ House

In general, all celebrities are not immune to “scandals,” false rumors, and sasaeng fans—overzealous supporters. However, compared to US-UK artists or celebrities in other fields, K-pop idols like BTS face these pressures to a greater degree and are more vulnerable.

In the past, South кσяєαn entertainment companies rarely took proactive legal action to protect individual artists, especially before 2015. During that time, second- and third-generation K-pop idols frequently faced attacks from obsessive fans, being followed to the point of α¢¢ι∂єитs or near poisoning, suffering from mental health issues, and in some extreme cases, a few idols made drastic choices after enduring prolonged public pressure.

As this situation became alarming, major companies such as Big Hit Music/HYBE, SM, YG, and JYP began to place greater emphasis on protecting their artists and their privacy, involving legal authorities. In recent years, HYBE has been highly proactive, filing lawsuits every quarter to punish those who harαѕѕ, invade privacy, or damage the personal reputation of their artists.

On September 29, Big Hit Music announced legal action regarding acts of defamation and break-ins into the homes of BTS members—an issue that had recently come to the forefront. According to fan reports, the company has been working with the ρσℓι¢є, and the suspects are gradually being summoned for questioning and trial. Meanwhile, some illegal break-ins into artists’ private residences have been referred to the prosecution.

Below is the full official statement from Big Hit Music:

" This is BIGHIT MUSIC.

This quarter, we have initiated legal action against the authors of malicious posts, who were identified through valuable fan reports and our monitoring of domestic online communities (Naver, Daum (Women’s Generation, Jjukbbang Cafe, SoulDresser, etc.), Nate, TheQoo, Dmitory, multiple “galleries” within DC Inside (BTS Gallery, Male Celebrities Gallery, Domestic Entertainment Gallery, etc.), Instiz, Ilgan Best, FMкσяєα, etc.), music sites (Melon, Bugs Music, Genie Music, etc.), and international social media channels (X, Instagram, YouTube, etc.).

Even in anonymous online spaces, acts that defame others, such as slandering artists, using insulting language, or spreading unfounded rumors, are subject to criminal punishment under laws such as the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection. We are committed to using all available legal channels to protect our artists and are responding strongly to such illegal acts with a zero-tolerance policy.

Furthermore, some of the criminal complaints filed last year were forwarded to the prosecution in July with a recommendation for indictment. Investigations for cases filed this year are also underway. As part of the legal process, suspects are being summoned for questioning, in some instances through the execution of warrants.

Meanwhile, there have been several recent incidents of attempted break-ins at the homes of BTS members. We are actively cooperating with relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into these intrusions, including by reporting them to the ρσℓι¢є and submitting evidence and written opinions. Some of these cases have been forwarded to the prosecution, and we will spare no effort in ensuring these individuals face the strictest possible legal consequences.

Any act of visiting or loitering at an artist’s private residence, observing an artist’s residence from the outside, leaking an artist’s personal information, or any other actions that infringe upon the artist’s privacy are not only subject to criminal punishment under laws concerning trespαѕѕing and stalking, but are also illegal acts that cause serious anxiety and distress to the victim. To foster a safe and healthy fan culture, we earnestly ask that you respect the privacy and safety of our artists.

We are always grateful for the affection and dedication shown by the fans of BTS. BIGHIT MUSIC will continue to work to ensure that the rights of our artists are fully protected.

Thank you."

The statement at this time helped reαѕѕure both the artists and fans who were concerned about the members’ safety, particularly Jungkook.

BTS’s Golden Maknae faced two illegal break-ins by two women within just two months after his military discharge. On June 11, a Chinese woman in her 30s, referred to as Ms. A, was caught after repeatedly entering the pαѕѕword to his front door. Subsequently, on August 30, a South кσяєαn woman in her 40s, Ms. B, broke into the parking lot, causing damage.

In addition to these two notable cases, Jungkook’s family registration information was also stolen by sasaeng fans and widely circulated on social media, posing risks to the safety and privacy of non-celebrity family members.

Moreover, BTS members face daily defamatory posts with extremely harsh language and false rumors that could seriously affect their reputation and mental well-being.

Although Big Hit’s actions cannot completely eliminate the dangers BTS faces, they help mitigate some of the negative impacts. At the same time, this serves as a direct deterrent to individuals intending to harm the artists.
