Well, I think only BTS could be powerful enough to make haters dig up videos from four years ago just to find a convenient excuse to launch attacks against them. BTS is so perfect that haters couldn’t find any real weaknesses to bring them down, so they attached absurd allegations — including claims that they tolerated ARMYs attacking James Corden.
Before looking at the trend currently spreading on X, I want to revisit the context that led to this situation. If you remember, around September 2021, on an episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden, the famous host commented: “It actually marks the first time that 15‑year‑old girls everywhere found themselves wishing that they were [Secretary‑General] António Guterres,” referring to BTS and the group’s highly attention-grabbing performance at the United Nations General Assembly.

This remark prompted a strong reaction from ARMYs on social media, as they felt Corden had devalued, stereotyped, and dismissed this diverse fandom. Western media at the time sided with ARMYs, defending that they were not just a “teen girl fandom” but were diverse in age, gender, and nationality — thus, Corden’s comment was seen as insensitive.
It seemed the story had ended in 2021 — but no! Four years later, it resurfaced, and this time BTS and ARMYs were the targets of harsh criticism from a segment of hostile netizens. Notably, BTS were being “called out” for supposedly tolerating their fans вυℓℓуing and threatening James Corden’s life. The idols were also accused of hypocrisy, allegedly manipulating the fandom to attack others while preaching morality in public.
This issue escalated from a video of BTS meeting James Corden after that “beef.” Some netizens took issue with RM’s words: “But James, what about you? You’re in trouble with ARMY. Are you okay? James, are you okay? Are you okay?”. They criticized RM’s tone as condescending and sarcastic, given that James’s safety had been threatened by the idol’s own fans.
They also pointed out that the mocking attitude and loud laughter of the other members when James apologized out of fear of being threatened by ARMYs constituted a harmless-seeming complicity in terrifying hostility. These accusatory posts are now circulating widely on X with more than 4 million views, attracting thousands of comments and retweets condemning BTS and ARMYs, such as:

Faced with this controversy, ARMYs could not stay silent — especially when BTS were being blamed for “tolerating harmful fan behavior.” They pointed out that BTS continued to participate in the show, sincerely engaging with James Corden to ease the tension between him and ARMYs. BTS even clearly helped the host reduce the backlash he faced after his verbal misstep with clever humor.
On the other hand, BTS are the idols of ARMYs, and just as fans always defend them, BTS naturally cannot ignore anyone insulting their supporters. James Corden was at fault and needed to issue a straightforward apology. BTS’s reaction was entirely appropriate. In contrast, the reactions of those currently hostile toward BTS are the real problem:
- yall are soooooo mad nj respects his predominantly female fanbase and will never entertain the "all my fans are crazy teenage girls " narrative
- bts better than me to accept his apology cause if he made a misogynistic comment in front of me id tell him to di3 on his FACE
- Like namjoon accepted the "apology" to give James the easy way out and he literally blew up that chance by saying "no that wasn't an apology". Namjoon gave him the easy way out but James didn't want it how is that the sign of namjoon being a bad person???
- They know that guy just wants sympathy after getting called out. You have to scroll through hundreds of comments and replies to find those wishing him ∂єα∂ posts. Didn't even see them. Just people felt insulted by his stereotypes.
- There is a clear difference between ∂єαтн threats and the word "hope". For your information James pαѕѕed a very irrational comment which RM gave a good reply to. and What proof do any one have that the entire clip is true and none of its part is not edited but a show?
- This post is "resurfacing" FAKE because people and other fandoms are Freaking SCARED of BTS coming back...they don't know what to do to taint their image and satanise Army. They are trying so hard but not even James Corden gives a Sнιт about what happen in 2021.
- Dragging old clips? BTS comeback still gonna slay. End of story! PERIOD
- BTS defended ARMYs from misogynistic comments made by that man. ARMYs were very polite on the show comment section explaining why what they said was wrong and not soмєтнing appropriate to say about young women/teens. BTS did what they had to do. Stop defending misogynistic men!
