Following their successful stops in New Jersey and Foxborough, BTS headed to Maryland for two nights at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, a venue with a capacity of around 70,000, on the 10th and 11th. The group’s star power quickly spread throughout the city ahead of showtime. On the 9th local time, Maryland Governor Wes Moore even shared a roughly 30-second video on his official X (formerly Twitter) account to welcome BTS: “Welcome to Baltimore. And to every member of the BTS ARMY: Let’s make some noise!”
It was not only the local government that was mobilized for the event. Baltimore’s transportation system was also prepared to accommodate the mαѕѕive number of fans heading to the stadium. Local transportation authorities pushed back the last train departure and added extra services. Even several hours before the event officially began, the area around M&T Bank Stadium was already packed with fans. ARMY dressed in outfits inspired by the signature colors of the ARIRANG album or the fandom’s iconic purple could not hide their excitement, constantly taking photos, checking in, and interacting with one another despite coming from different places.
And then, as soon as the opening lines of “Watch this, watch this beat goin' hooligan” rang out, that excitement instantly turned into screams that shook the entire stadium, along with perfectly synchronized fanchants. With BTS’ dedication and the enthusiasm of tens of thousands of fans, the roughly two-hour show went almost flawlessly — except for one minor interruption!
According to several fans who attended the event, during the performance of SWIM, the large 360-degree screen surrounding the stage suddenly went completely dark and stopped displaying live footage of the members as it normally does. Since the screen is designed to allow fans to closely follow the performance, especially those seated farther away from the stage, the issue inevitably affected the atmosphere of the show to some extent.
Fortunately, the problem did not last too long. After more than half of the song had pαѕѕed, the screen system was fixed and returned to normal. The moment the visuals came back on, the atmosphere inside the stadium immediately became more electric, with fans once again fully immersing themselves in BTS’ performance.
The unusual incident is believed to have been a result of the heavy rain and strong thunderstorms that нιт the area several hours before the concert began. At around 4:14 p.m. local time on the 10th, the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) issued a tornado warning for northern Baltimore and parts of Baltimore, Howard, and Carroll counties after weather radar detected signs of rotation that could potentially produce a tornado.
At the time, preparations to welcome concertgoers were underway at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore ahead of BTS’ ARIRANG World Tour concert. However, along with the tornado warning, heavy rain poured down around the venue, forcing the highly anticipated VIP soundcheck to be canceled and fans already at the site to evacuate inside the stadium. Even after the rain had eased considerably, the possibility of severe thunderstorms remained, prompting the stadium to push back the opening time for general concertgoers from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
As soon as the weather became more stable, staff at M&T Bank Stadium were seen immediately inspecting and cleaning the stage in preparation for the concert. Fans at the venue reported seeing staff carefully checking both the main and secondary stages, as well as various pieces of equipment and machinery, for potential damage or safety issues. The cleanup was also carried out at full speed. A cleaning crew was seen using specialized equipment to remove water from the floor, while other staff members followed up by carefully wiping down the surface with towels.
Even so, it seems that some issues were simply beyond the staff’s control. Fortunately, the screen going dark during SWIM was only a minor technical glitch and had little impact on the concert as a whole. Most of the show continued safely, smoothly, and with plenty of energy. In the end, BTS and ARMY were still able to enjoy their own “purple storm” together in Baltimore!
Meanwhile, local media have been discussing the enormous economic impact of BTS’ Baltimore concert, or more broadly, the North αмєяι¢αn leg of the ARIRANG World Tour taking place around this time.
From fans flying in from other regions and additional train services being added, to hotels and restaurants around the venue enjoying a major boost in business, what is currently happening in Baltimore is a textbook example of the phenomenon known as “BTSnomics” — soмєтнing that has actually become far less unfamiliar in the U.S. in recent years. Industry experts have even referred to the current boom as the “Golden Age of Live Performance,” describing the mαѕѕive concert frenzy fueled by BTS that is sweeping across the United States.
Meanwhile, British newspaper The Guardian reported on BTS’ North αмєяι¢αn tour, saying that the group is creating an economic boom in major U.S. cities “comparable to the recently concluded 2026 FIFA World Cup.” Michael Mariano, a senior researcher at Tourism Economics, a global market research organization, also noted that the average per-person spending of BTS fans, including airfare, accommodation, food and beverages, exceeds the spending, will “easily compare [to] or even exceed Fifa’s economic impact just on average spending”.
